Thank you so much for joining us at this year's 14th Annual Legislative Summit in Washington, DC. This three-day gathering will provided in-depth policy analysis on NIEA’s latest federal public policy priorities affecting families, schools and communities through skill building trainings, workshops, panel discussions, and guest speakers. NIEA delegates held more than 40 meetings with U.S. Congressional Members and their staff to discuss how to "Restore the Trust in Native Education." We are so grateful to the more than 150 delegates and education advocates who attended this year's Summit and made their voice heard on Capitol Hill.
NIEA is very grateful to our sponsor and partners for the event: the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (Coffee Break sponsor), United South and Eastern Tribes, Inc (Partner for the USET/NIEA Reception) and the Close Up Foundation (Partner, see below).

Close Up: NIEA Program

Click on the picture above to see the Close Up video from 2010.
From Feb. 6-12, 2011, Close Up partnered with NIEA to lead a teach students about the legislative process and give them first-hand experience in communicating advocacy issues. The program gave students the skills and attitudes to advocate for issues important to them and their tribes. Students will also examine the federal government and their relationship with Native Americans throughout history.
These students will also took part in the visits to Congress on Capitol Hill and the NIEA reception during NIEA’s Legislative Summit. For more pictures of our Close Up students in action, go to our Flickr page and see them present their Tribal Action Plans during the USET/NIEA Reception.
